While there are many names for God, the oldest versions of the Bible use Jehovah. In the modern versions, they changed Jehovah to God/Jesus/Lord. This can be quite confusing for new Christians reading the Bible for the first time. That’s why I started this blog, Psalms 83:18. Here, I clarify that the original name for God is Jehovah. It’s the name that’s been in use since the 16th century, and for good reason. That’s because the name has a divine inspiration. You see, the original Hebrew name for God is, ‘YHWH’, the ‘tetragrammaton’. It comes from the Hebrew words for tetra, four, and gram. It’s considered the personal name of God and has sacred implications. It was so respected that the Jews wouldn’t even say it out loud when reading the Bible. As a result, the true pronunciation for this name is still unknown. The two most accepted pronunciations are ‘Yahweh’ and ‘Jehovah’. Many scholars have defended the name Jehovah over the years. You see, the recent versions of the Bible change the word Jehovah to God, Jesus, and Lord. It’s very rare to find a version of the Bible that still uses Jehovah. I’m a strong believer that God’s true name is Jehovah, and that we should still be using the name to this day. Be sure to check out my posts to learn more about the origins of the name Jehovah!
